About Benjamin Baker (Plastic Surgeon)

As a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeon in Manchester, UK, my primary NHS clinical interest lies in oncoplastic and microvascular breast reconstruction. I also specialize in reconstruction of oncological defects following skin cancer, head and neck cancer, sarcoma, and colorectal malignancy. In my private practice, I focus on aesthetic breast surgery and body contouring at Manchester Plastic Surgery, as well as reconstructive breast and cancer surgery at The Alexandra Hospital. I currently serve as the BAPRAS UK National Flap Registry Lead and Quality Lead for Plastic Surgery at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. I am proud to be on the UK GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. My professional memberships include the British and American Associations of Plastic Surgeons (BAPRAS and ASPS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS). Prior to my current role, I worked as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia, after completing an advanced fellowship in reconstructive oncology. I also completed a nationally appointed Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Training Interface Group Fellowship, which enabled me to practice resectional and reconstructive breast cancer surgery. My specialty training was completed across the North West of the UK. In addition to my clinical work, I have completed an MBA with a focus on Strategic Health and Social Care, as well as a Health Education England Leadership Fellowship. I hold a PGCert in Medical Education and have served on various committees, including BAPRAS Council, BAPRAS Education Committee, and the Specialty Advisory Committee for Plastic Surgery. I am a Past-President of the Plastic Surgery Trainees Association (PLASTA UK) and led the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and a period of significant growth in 2020-2021. My current research interests include patient-reported outcomes in breast reconstruction, enhanced recovery, and surgical training. I have authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications and presented at over 40 national and international scientific meetings. I also peer-review for leading international plastic surgery journals.
